At the end of January Nell and I took off to Florence for the Pitti Filatti trade fair and this time were joined by my husband Barry and Nell’s fiancée Tim. Nell and Tim are getting married in Tuscany in October so this was a great opportunity to check out some locations for the wedding and sample the food and wine suggested by the wedding planner!
Pitti in January is where we look for yarns for Spring/Summer of the following year and in July we will be looking for Autumn/Winter products. The January show tends to be less exciting but the weather is perfect, chilly but sunny! Whereas in July the searing heat can be pretty draining when you are rushing from one appointment to another.
Nell and I always enjoy meeting up with our Italian manufacturing colleagues and seeing the new products they have developed for the season, some yarns we may fall in love with straight away, others may need to be tweaked after we have swatched with them. This is also a time to look at the trend predictions and colour forecasts.
At the show we were interested to see subtle metallics around for day to party wear and on the stitch front thick and thin yarns produce translucent and matt looks all in one garment. Open work made an appearance too either in webby ladders or laced through eyelets.
Plenty to see and much to think about!
